    Netherlands’ Ecovillage Boekel is a Model for Sustainable Living – Natural Building Blog

    From the sky, the Netherlands’ Ecovillage Boekel looks like a flower house. It is an almost self-sufficient housing community that was voted the most sustainable organization in the Netherlands in 2021. This project offers concrete solutions for social, economic, and cultural regeneration.

    The Ecovillage is made up of 36 pioneering sustainable flats where 48 adults live. The climate-positive round buildings retain 800 tons of C02.  The houses are built with bio-sustainable materials such as wood and hemp. The project is supported by a number of government agencies that want to advance sustainable life.

    Boekel is a testing ground for many innovations, such as the César heating system, which stores the energy produced by the ecovillage’s 600 solar panels. The storage unit will reach a temperature of 450 degrees C. (842 degrees F.) and then the heat is provided for the floor…
