Congestion pricing\u2014the transformative strategy that would inject massive new funds into the nation\u2019s largest transit system, untangle congestion in Manhattan\u2019s traffic-plagued central business district, and slice car and truck air pollution emissions\u2014has hit an eleventh\u00a0hour roadblock.<\/span><\/p>\n Governor Kathy Hochul has directed New York City\u2019s regional public transit agency, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), \u201cto indefinitely pause the program,\u201d which had been scheduled to go into effect beginning June 30.<\/span><\/p>\n The governor\u2019s surprising and shattering announcement has created a fiscal earthquake that leaves a gaping hole in the MTA\u2019s capital budget and jeopardizes the system\u2019s ability to deliver safe and reliable transit service to millions of daily transit riders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
