    Africa takes stock of ocean conservation

    AN expert on climate change and green growth at the African Development Bank says growing coastal populations and lack of planning and sanitation are putting pressure on oceans and marine resources in Africa.

    Constant Adeniyi said there are 38 coastal countries in Africa, six of which are small islands covering 40 000 km and comprising a population of 100 million people.

    Adeniyi made a presentation on the progress African countries have made towards achieving goal 14 (life below water) of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at a two-day Experts Group Meeting for the 2022 African Sustainable Development Goals held in Windhoek recently.
